What to Do If Your Air Conditioner Is Running but Not Cooling Your House?

February 22, 2022

Have you wondered, "How do I know if I need to get my air conditioning unti looked at?" Maybe you have noticed that the temperature in your home keeps rising, but the air conditioner is running. That is one among many signs of a problem. We give tips and clues for air conditioning issues.

What Are the Signs My Air Conditioning Unit Is Not Working?

Running But No Output

As mentioned earlier, your AC could be running, but it isn’t outputting any air. In these cases, there is a possible blockage in your system that is preventing the air from flowing, or something else is broken down within the system. This will require a professional technician to come out and do an inspection.

Check the Air Filter

Since it is out of sight, your air filter is often out of mind when it comes to changing it. If you haven’t changed it in a while, it may be dirty and air may not be able to flow through it easily. You will need to get a new filter, clean out the area where the old filter was and then replace it with a new one. Make sure your air filter is the appropriate size to filter out all the contaminants coming through.

Survey the Refrigerant Levels

Inside the coils of your HVAC system is the refrigerant fluid that maintains your system. If there is a leak in your refrigerant, it could keep the air from cooling properly. It needs to be inspected to see if there is any damage from it leaking into the system, repairing the area where it is leaking, and then getting it back to the right levels.

Examine the Ductwork

If there has been a leak, it is possible there is damage to the ductwork. You need to inspect it and make sure that cool air cannot escape when the system is on. This could also impact how much, if any, air can get through to circulate.
